In “The American” series there is a moment when Elizabeth for a moment decides to keep a picture that was given to her – there is a moment of hesitation when she wants to keep the picture but she immediately pulls it back and sets on fire. What does this moment signify? Did she feel like a real person for the brief moment – felt real connection to that dead person she spent time with who reached her drawing? But later – the usual emptiness came back, right? What to keep this picture for? There is no sense to keep evidence against her.
